Nursery Bedding is perhaps the most important part of your child's nursery. Your child's crib is perhaps the focal point in the nursery and the type and style of bedding that you choose forms the basis of your nursery's theme.
Every mother wants to provide their child with the most comfortable and safe bedding. How do you choose which type of nursery bedding is best for your baby.
I can give you a few pointers as to how to go about it; first you can make sure that the crib you choose for your child meets the crib safety standards. Whether you buy a new one or get a used one, make sure the frame is tight and withstands weight.
Next step would be buying a firm mattress. Avoid buying a soft mattress as there is a risk of suffocation. The mattress should fit in the crib perfectly, you can check by inserting two fingers between the mattress and the frame of the crib.
Many parents want bumper pads as part of their nursery bedding.
Choose bumper pads as mentioned below, and make sure that you fasten them tightly to the crib.
In order to buy safe bumper pads for your child's crib, you can choose from three different types of bumper pads.
a) A well-constructed traditional bumper pad
b) A breathable mesh bumper
c) Alternative bumpers which surround individual slats.
I would suggest that the breathable mesh bumper is perhaps the safest allowing clear circulation of air inside the crib. You can easily make them stay using small Velcro tapes.
Many Pediatricians say that blankets and baby comforters can pose sufficient danger of suffocation to the babies, but we all know that blankets and quilts form an integral part of Nursery bedding. To be on the safe side, get blankets which are made of cotton or cotton blend threads. Avoid Nylon threads. Drape them around the crib and when your baby is about to sleep, remove them.
The Crib Sheets that you choose as part of your nursery bedding should be made of cotton only. 100% cotton sheets are most preferable, but they could have a lot of wrinkles after they come out of the drier. If that bothers you, you can look for cotton blend sheets with high cotton ratio.
The edges of the sheet should stay in, you can buy sheets having elastic edges so they the bedding remains snug and intact no matter what amount of activity takes place on it. Elastic edges usually go around all the way around the sheet. It is a good idea to have a look at special crib sheets that are designed keeping the safety in mind. They usually slip on the mattress like a pillow case while others have a device that attaches the sheet to the mattress.
